Haunted Houses - Pu'uhonau O Honaunau National Park

Pu'uhonau O Honaunau National Park

Why did we rate this "Confirmed"? Because multiple sources off the internet sites have experienced paranormal activity at this location & therefore warrants a rating of "Confirmed".

What's the tale? This is the location of the largest Huna temple. During the reign of Hawaii's old religion known as Huna, sinners who were caught breaking the laws had to make it to the temple at Pu'uhonau O Honaunau before being caught or they would be killed. If they made it to the temple they could work off their sin. There are many spirits that cry at the gates of the sanctuary at the temple... those poor spirits who didn't make it to the temple before being caught and killed.

What do we know as fact? Thanks to this site we understand a little better about what really happened. Pu'uhonau O Honaunau was a sanctuary for those who were caught breaking kapu, the law in ancient Hawaii. They had to seek refuge here in order to be completely absolved of the sin(s) they committed. The reason they were absolved if they could make it to this sanctuary was because the only way to get to it in those times was to swim through shark-infested waters. If you survived swimming into sharks and made it to the sanctuary you were thought worthy of being absolved of your sins. So there seems to be a deviation from the internet lore to the truth of Pu'uhonau O Honaunau.

Thoughts: This is a highly active place with residual energy and spirits therefore earning the rank of "Confirmed".
